Inauguration of the "Skyros horse" art exhibition
CORFU TODAY - Culture, 23 September 2005

On Sunday 25 September, a double art exhibition in aid of the endangered Skyros horse will be inaugurated at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Gallery of Corfu and at 9 p.m. at the STABLUS HALL beneath the new fortress. An unusual collection of artworks will be presented until 10 October in Corfu, an island that is today well known by the world's naturalists thanks to Gerald DURRELL, the world famous author and broadcaster on wildlife conservation.

SILVA, a non-profit organisation for the preservation and breeding of the Skyros horse, is based in Corfu. Sharing the same vision as many conservationists, the founding members decided to make this ancient breed more known and find a new utilisation for it.

One of the SILVA founding members, Aliki Steen who is an artist herself, has successfully organised this year Skyros horse art exhibitions in Paris, Andenne, Gembloux, Skyros and Athens. In Corfu, she presents her paintings as well as the work of 23 sculptors, painters and photographers from France, Belgium, Greece, Norway and the USA :
